FRESHMAN LIBERAL EDUCATION PROGRAM
FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
What is FLEP
FLEP is a f reshman course which provides students with the necessary preparation to undertake a college degree at Providence University.
As freshman, students will acquire a
proficient knowledge of Chinese language and culture. The program includes 42 credits in one school year ( 2 semesters ).
After completing the FLEP courses, and passing the TOCFL A2 level exam, students are eligible to transfer to specif ic departments.
Chinese Corner
The purpose of Chinese Corner is to let foreign students have a chance to practice Chinese, to communicate with Providence University students, to know more about Taiwan from different perspectives.

Learning away from Classroom
Based on the topic of Chinese course, FLEP arranges some outdoor activities or field trips to let learners integrate what they have learnt from the classroom with outdoor activities, immersing themselves in local environment to find out authentic Chinese in life.

Aside from Chinese courses, FLEP provides a variety of cultural courses, such as painting paper fans, visiting Wufeng Lin Family, playing mahjong, making facial mask, making dumplings, making lanterns, writing calligraphy, etc. It is here that you can experience the beauty of Taiwanese local cultures and festive attractions.
WHAT TO LEARN
1. Language ability:
language and communication skills are important elements of global mobility. They are also basic tools for learning. This program offers intensive Chinese and issues-oriented English courses. In addition to the training of listening, speaking, reading and writing about daily conversation, it also combines the subject of multiple fields to help foreign students gain the language skills needed to enter the university.
2. Learning ability:
the course prefers the learning model of “learning by doing”
3. Cultural Mobility
Internally, make good use of the abundant resources in campus to create a multicultural learning environment. Externally, create an opening learning space to connect the social community to learn different cultures. Through participate the activities, FLEP students cultivate the self-awareness, realizing others and sense of inclusion. Furthermore, FLEP students own the cross cultural adaptation abilities and cultural mobility by participating FLEP curriculum and activities.
4. Professional inquiry ability
Combining the interdisciplinary resources of the school and offering a cross-field learning and exploration program. Hold professional exploration program regularly to let student to familiar campus culture and educational environment by joining cross-field course. Moreover, understanding the professional features of each departments and explore their professional interests.
5. Adaption of life
There will be a life mentor who will offer life advisory and learning guidance. International and Cross-Strait Affairs has “The office of overseas student advisers”, which offer consulting service related to their study. In addition, we will arrange a Taiwanese student to be a “learning
partners” to assist foreign freshmen to fit in at Taiwanese living environment.
